Rossman Kids Love Books

Hands down, Rossman students love books and love to read! I have no doubt with the holidays fast approaching that our students are putting books on their wish lists. To help with your holiday gift shopping, I am sharing my favorite gifts (with links) for book-loving kids.
- Bookplates: I love book plates. I really enjoy placing them inside books I am giving as gifts. I have found that book lovers and collectors really love them too.
- Bookmarks: Nothing disappears from the Rossman School Library faster than bookmarks. From Junior Kindergarten right up to 6th grade, they love them. I’m a personal fan of this Snoopy one.
- Book light: Give them permission to read under the blankets! I know I loved it when I was a kid.
- Reading log: My 16-year-old niece loves to read, and she has been keeping a log of all the books she’s read for years. She loves to pull it out and page through the list of novels she’s read. I have to say I regret never having gotten into the habit myself.
- Harry Potter Wand Pen & Bookmark Set: What Harry Potter fan, adult and kid alike, would not want a Harry Potter wand pen??
- Mark My Time Bookmark: Is your child obsessed with time, counting minutes and setting timers? If so, this digital timer and bookmark is for you. Time to drop everything and read!
- Highlighters: Every time I pull out highlighters to use in the library, the kids love it. This set of highlighters come in an array of colors, and best of all, they are a mini size! They fit perfectly into a pocket. Seeing how much comes out of the pockets of Rossman kids, I think these would be a big hit.
- Book subscription: Who doesn’t love receiving a package in the mail? St. Louis’s own independent bookstore, The Novel Neighbor, offers book subscriptions. You can buy a 3, 6 or 12-month subscription for your child to receive a new book from The Novel Neighbor in the mail. Check it out!
- Journals: The more you read, the more you write. The more you write, the more you read. You can’t go wrong with blank journals for writing stories and poems, making lists, writing down favorite quotes, recording a recipe, sketching and more. I prefer the journals with blank covers that allow you to decorate them.
- Banagrams: I love this game. We’ve been playing it as a family for some time now. My niece and nephew can now beat me! It’s fun to see how a beginner player starts by making simple words and then progresses to making complex words with speed!
