Reuse, Repurpose, Recycle
By: Senior Kindergarten Teachers Kathleen Bauer, Lauren Brody and Jill Morris
There is an ongoing effort in education to collaborate, communicate and connect across the curriculum. In the fall, after a shipment of new supplies was delivered to Mrs. Taylor, our technology coordinator, she offered the packing pieces to the SK classroom. We quickly put them to good use. What a wonderful time of constructing and creating evolved from this unexpected gift!
As time moved on, Mrs. Spangler, our art instructor, devised a painting activity for each student to use imagination as they added color and style to the blocks. Shortly thereafter, Mrs. Dorner, our music educator came alongside, ready to integrate these wonderful creations into music class for the students to practice rhythm on their very own “clapping blocks.”
The journey began early in the school year to reuse, repurpose and recycle simple packing pieces, and it continues! Enjoying the benefits of teamwork for faculty and students is a wonderful example of celebrating an aspect of healthy unity within the learning atmosphere. What an amazing opportunity for the Senior Kindergarten students at Rossman School to benefit from these cross-curricular and environmentally happy lessons!
Happy 2017! May it be a year of wonder and creativity in learning for all!
