Senior Kindergarten Teacher
Rossman School is searching for an experienced teacher to serve as a Senior Kindergarten teacher for the 2023-2024 academic year. The ideal candidate will work collaboratively with two other full-time teachers as an integral part of the Senior Kindergarten team.
The Senior Kindergarten team jointly plans and teaches language arts, mathematics, science and social studies. The primary focus of the language arts curriculum is reading and writing. Reading instruction centers around small guided reading groups and phonics instruction utilizing the Wilson Fundations program. A wide variety of high quality children’s literature is also explored as students learn story elements, complete non-fiction research, and engage in author study. For writing, the Senior Kindergarten team uses the Lucy Calkins’ Writing Workshop program. Through their personal writing projects, the students learn the primary foundation to writing, such as sentence structure, complete sentences, and how to write a story.
The mathematics curriculum emphasizes the continued development of number sense and problem-solving skills. The Everyday Math Level K program is implemented along with other teacher-designed lessons. These activities provide instruction to concepts, such as addition and subtraction, skip counting, graphing, time, money, geometry, and measurement.
Working from an established curriculum, the Senior Kindergarten team develops and executes developmentally-appropriate lessons in the areas of science and social studies. Students also enjoy specialty classes, including Spanish, library, music, art, science, and physical education.
Regular parent-teacher communication is an expectation at Rossman School. This individual works with the Senior Kindergarten team to complete progress reports, including written comments, participates in parent-teacher conferences, responds to parent emails, and makes parent phone calls.
The ideal candidate for this position will have a minimum of two years experience working with young children. He/she will be committed to collaborative team-teaching and designing effective and challenging curriculum for talented students. He/she will possess a strong work ethic, a love for teaching, the ability to work closely with colleagues in the classroom, flexibility, adaptability, and an overall commitment to a child's academic and social emotional growth.
