FIFTH GRADE TEACHER

Rossman School is searching for an experienced educator to assume homeroom responsibilities for its fifth grade for the 2012-2013 academic year. The selected candidate will be paired with another fifth grade homeroom teacher to form the fifth grade homeroom team.

Working collaboratively, the fifth grade homeroom team jointly plans and teaches the language arts and mathematics curriculum. The homeroom teaching team also collaboratively assesses student work. The language arts curriculum includes the study of multiple novels, an independent reading program, reading comprehension activities, Wordly Wise, grammar and proofreading skills, spelling and extensive training in writing utilizing the 6 + 1 Traits of Writing. The mathematics curriculum is based on the Everyday Mathematics program.

The homeroom team is also responsible for character building activities based on the four key tenets of Rossman School: Honesty, Respect, Responsibility and Kindness. Teamwork and personal character building are emphasized as children grow into pre-adolescence.

The ideal candidate for this position will have experience with pre-adolescent children. He/she will be committed to the notion of collaborative team-teaching while designing effective and challenging curriculum for talented students with another educator. He/she will possess a strong work ethic, a love for teaching, the ability to effectively interact with parents, a good sense of humor, the ability to work closely with a colleague in the classroom, flexibility, adaptability, poise and an overall commitment to a child's academic and social betterment. Experience in an independent school is not required. Salary and benefits will be commensurate with other area independent schools and an applicant’s experience.
