Why do families choose Rossman for their children? Their reasons are both academically clear and emotionally heartfelt — people, environment, program.
People — Environment — Program
At Rossman School, the children are the priority. A kind and dedicated faculty, administration, and staff emphasizes personal relationships with each child. The adults are models and spokesmen for moral leadership, and Rossman School generously supports families by holding children accountable for their personal best in both academics and strength of character. The intent of the Rossman program is to teach a strong work ethic within a nurturing environment and make success a habit.
Frequent Success
At Rossman School, a well-defined curriculum and superior instruction allow each child to experience frequent success. Experience tells us that high expectations encourage and motivate students who will live in an increasingly global society. We enthusiastically welcome children from all racial, ethnic and cultural backgrounds. Students are taught respect and compassion for others, appreciation for differences among people, strength of character, positive leadership skills, self-discipline, and individual responsibility. Our mission is a large challenge and a larger opportunity!
8:1 Student-to-Teacher Ratio
With a full enrollment of 232 children and one class per grade level, Rossman employs 18 homeroom teachers as well as 10 specialty teachers, making our student-to-teacher ratio an exceptional 8:1. Students move from homerooms to specialty rooms as the day progresses, experiencing a change of pace that keeps the school day interesting and dynamic.
Activities
To complement their academic and social experiences at Rossman, students are offered a variety of sports, educational, performance, community service and recreational activities:
- Interschool sports for Grades 3 through 6
- Drama classes for Grades 3 through 6
- Field trips and/or guest speakers at all grade levels
- Projects for community service, charity, environmental awareness
- Holiday parties, Rossman School Spirit Day
- All-school performances at the Holiday Program and Grandparents’ Day
Academics
The value of Rossman’s program is dramatically confirmed when our students compete academically outside the school. For example:
- At least 95% of Rossman students secure entry into competitive independent secondary schools
- On annual achievement tests written and distributed by the Educational Records Bureau and given primarily in independent elementary schools, 50% of Rossman’s sixth grade students consistently rank above the 90th percentile against national norms
Throughout their years in the school, the personal integrity of the children is a continuing source of encouragement and pleasure. Citizenship, friendship and academics go hand in hand.
Faculty
Experienced educators are chosen to lead the Rossman children. The school is committed to a staff development program that funds and requires professional growth and expertise. Fifty-three percent of our teachers have chosen to secure advanced degrees. In addition to their ongoing educational endeavors, faculty members participate in a variety of professional organizations, civic groups and cultural activities.
